Children in Myanmar are being needlessly separated from their families and placed in orphanages and children’s homes.

It is a tragedy that 73% of children* placed into residential care in Myanmar have parents, but have been separated from their families due to poverty, family breakdown, or to access education.

This trend is widely exacerbated by well-meaning volunteers and short-term missions teams who come to Myanmar with the well-intentioned desire to 'help' children in poverty. Unfortunately, this does more harm than good, meaning that children remain in a sustained cycle of poverty, trauma and under-development.

An estimated 8 million children around the world are living in institutional care. 80% of these children have living parents. Institutional care is detrimental to a child's growth and development. Because of this, Kinnected Myanmar is working to help reunite children in orphanages with their families.
